Mergermarket’s business is about providing accurate, relevant and time-critical merger and acquisition information to their users, 24 hours every day. Their users include almost all of the world’s largest banking institutions who demand exceptional accuracy, service and reliability.

The Need 

Mergermarket was thriving but their technology was letting them down. They have the best merger and acquisition information in the European space but their technology prevented them from leveraging this.

Mergermarket’s original web application and hosting environment was failing to cope with user growth and could not scale to provide new services that customers demanded.

Mergermarket needed to change and chose Digiterre to help.

They wanted:

  • A new system built from the ground up that would allow for scalability and expansion
  • Database restructuring (and migration of existing data) to be able to better leverage their huge information repository
  • Increased security to protect both Mergermarket’s intellectual property and also client’s personal or company information
  • Significantly more administration functionality including, reporting and editorial workflow
  • Efficient and scalable email and SMS alert system

Our Approach

Digiterre listened, and actively sought to learn as much about Mergermarket’s business as possible before embarking on an extensive analysis of the original system.

Following in-depth interviews, Digiterre identified current and future requirements. A significant amount of time was spent specifying and developing an architecture that would enable growth whilst providing the ability for Mergermarket to expand their services.

Digiterre’s close working relationship, built on trust and transparency of process, allowed Mergermarket to focus on developing their business while Digiterre took responsibility for technology.

Mergermarket’s new web-enabled system, database structure and browser-based content management system have facilitated Mergermarket’s doubling their client usage and volume of information within 6 months of launch.

They now capture and publish 250% more information with the new database structure. Additionally, it is now possible to introduce cost effective and timely new services, such as Dealscope, as well as launch completely new initiatives.

The new site delivers powerful reporting capabilities to users who can choose to have content presented in elegantly formatted Excel spreadsheets. Reports and alerts are also delivered directly to users - over 1.5 million updates are sent via email and SMS every week.

Security has been significantly increased. The hosting infrastructure is located in a secure data centre and behind industry leading firewall hardware. Customers can also choose to access Mergermarket via 128-bit secure socket layer (SSL) encryption.

A recent survey among leading investment banks, which also use services such as Reuters, Bloomberg and Thomson Financial, revealed that 93% of Mergermarket users thought that performance and delivery of the site was excellent.
