At Digiterre, our people are at the heart of the success of the organisation. As part of our new blog series, we are launching a monthly employee spotlight to highlight our outstanding colleagues and what makes each one of them unique. Starting this month, the first employee under the spotlight is our PMO Officer, Rosy Henderson!
I keep an overview of what’s happening on each of our current client projects, what the state of the finances is, what the resourcing needs are, people’s holiday plans or if they’re off for the day unexpectedly, and keeping in contact with engagement managers to check all going to plan etc.
On top of this I have a view of all the new projects coming in, and I put together quotes and proposals for them, keeping on top of the paperwork to make sure we’ve got the statements of work and they are correct, and all of the various bits that go with having a project running.
Every morning, I have a call at 9.30 with Raj, our CTO and Stephen who’s one of our delivery managers, and at that catch up we check on where we’ve got to, things that have happened the previous day, what we’re planning on doing that day, and any issues that we have going on.
Prior to that, I will be checking emails to see what, if anything unexpected has come up, if there have been responses to work I have open especially if I am waiting on other people and any actions on those.
Beyond that, it is whatever is going on at the time. For example if it’s month end, I’ll be sorting out timesheets and putting them into more spreadsheets and if it’s not, then there’s usually a proposal or two going on or there will be questions around putting together profiles for new consultants. All kinds of activity, there is no typical day!
I know it’s a bit embarrassing to say but I actually really like spreadsheets! It’s not everyone’s cup of tea but I like them, I find comfort in a spreadsheet!
What inspires or excites me, I quite enjoy getting to understand the process of how, as in how a project goes from a client requesting a bid and us preparing the response all the way to the project actually starting and all of the different things that have to happen at each stage and the sequence they go in, the variety of ways in which clients approach projects or the differences in what they actually want or need from us, it is continuously interesting to see.

There have been several highlights, one that’s just popped into my mind, I wasn’t actually planning on saying this but it was the Christmas party last year, it just happened to fall on the same day as I had an orchestra concert so I wasn’t going to be able to make it to the party originally, but then the plan changed to bring the party to my orchestra concert and everyone came along, and it was great. I was also really nervous but it went okay.
I’ve played in several orchestras over the years but this current one has been a couple of years and we do four or five concerts a year, this year we were only able to do one just before lockdown and since then, we haven’t been able to.
But yes, our Christmas concert tends to be one of the big ones and we put on crowd pleasers, such as the Star Wars music or Harry Potter. And yes, everyone came along and it was good fun.
It’s very open and respectful, if you’ve got an idea, you can feel comfortable saying it and know it will be taken seriously, which is nice. Everyone’s got something different to offer and there’s space for that, there’s no sort of identikit, if everyone was to be the same kind of person it would get tiring quite quickly.
I feel like Digiterre looks for people who will be able to deal with interacting with client stakeholders, not just disappear behind their headphones but will actually interact and voice their opinions, people who will challenge and not just be a yes man and say “It’s what the client wants, that’s what I’ll do” but people who look beyond that and consider, “Is this actually going to work? Is this actually going to deliver what they believe is going to work, is it what the client wants? is what they are aiming for the best approach or is there a better way around this?” People who are experienced enough and have the right attitude to be able to respectfully discuss those things with clients, people who will get along with colleagues of course and beyond that, a willingness to rub along with people and obviously be good at what they’re doing.
I’m not sure I would say it’s a surprise but I haven’t really worked anywhere previously that had the same kind of open door, not just policy but real feeling around access to the senior management.
If I want to chat to Ian about something, I can just go and chat to him, I don’t have to go through Wendy to make an appointment. I can just get in touch and he’s there, which is really nice.
They get the very good quality work that we do for them but beyond that, I think they get a really good relationship, working relationship with us as a team and the support team as well, we’re not just names at the end of an email. I get the impression they feel like we are actual people that they’ve built relationships with and dependable and not just looking at the bottom line.
I don’t think there’s anyone within Digiterre that I don’t have fairly regular contact with of some description The people I speak with most are Raj and Theresa and Stephen, beyond that, the delivery teams and then less often with the sales and marketing side, I do still have interactions with them fairly regularly, and I have fairly regular contact with Gill in the finance team as well.

My horizons have really broadened and I suppose my appetite for a challenge.
